Circumstances in our lives can sometimes make us feel miserable. The car breaks down, the kids get sick, our grades aren’t so hot. Any of the above could give someone a sour disposition. Today Derek tells us that when we’re faced with circumstances such as these we need to do one thing and one thing only to turn those circumstances around.

Works are the appropriate actions Christians make that demonstrate faith that we confess. God’s primary requirement is faith in the heart. As that faith overflows through our lips, we agree with the Word of God, saying with our lips that which will affect how we act.

In today’s message, Derek explains that this is not just wishful thinking, for people maintain many hopes that do not answer that description. Faith is in the present; hope is in the future. Derek points out several other distinctions between faith and hope.

Today, we explored how the new self is the product of God’s Word, the truth. In the new self, God’s purpose and His image are imparted to us. The nature of the new self can be described by the words, righteousness and holiness. The new self is born from the seed of the Word of God, which is divine, eternal, incorruptible, and so our nature produced from that seed also is divine, eternal, and incorruptible. It’s the very nature of Jesus Himself.

Derek is helping us understand how to walk through the land of God’s promises, and how to prosper in every area of our lives—and today, he is focusing specifically on the promises in God’s Word regarding finances. If you are struggling financially, you don’t want to miss any of this week’s teaching.

For today’s teaching, Derek turns to the book of Ephesians to establish certain standards of conduct for employees that the New Testament clearly lays down. The words are addressed to slaves (or in modern terms, we could say “servants” or “employees.” What responsibility do we have in experiencing favor on the job?

For those of you who have been saved, this message is a great reminder about your position as a child of God. For those of you have not yet made Jesus the Lord of your life, you’ll hear how to be “born again.” God loves you and He has made a way for you to be part of His family.

Our God is not stingy. He is not in spiritual or financial need. He is the author and source of everything and He provides for His people in abundance. So how do we become recipients of all that? Through His very great and precious promises in the Bible.
